Subject: Percy Genealogy
Dear Mr Percy,
Thank you for your recent communication. I would be happy to examine your Percy material and make a preliminary assessment as to what might be done in the matter.
However, I should point out that DNA analysis is of little practical genealogical value in establishing precise family links. The best it can do is to show when people were definitely not related. If DNA shows that a relationship exists it does not in any way establish the nature of that relationship.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Gwynn-Jones
Garter King of Arms.
We dispute Garter's claims regarding the role of DNA, especially when the male DNA has been claimed extinct for over 300 years.
