From Earl Digby's (Lord Digby of Sherborne Castle) Lawyers
to Joseph Percy
Sherborne
May 26 1884
Dear Sir,
On 29 September 1829, the late Earl Digby granted premises to late Richard Percy for the life of himself, Daniel Percy his brother & Joseph, son of his brother Joseph Percy, then aged 9 years.
A report has been circulated that the last life namely Joseph Percy, who we are informed is yourself, has been dead some years but W Dennis?, the worthy entitler to hold the property for this life, says that this report is untrue, and that you are living. We shall be glad if this letter reaches you, by your stating whether you are the Joseph Percy, the life named in the lease and this will save W Dennis? a great deal of trouble & expense and will also save further cost in proving the existence of the life.
We are, Dear Sir
Yours truly
W & G Flooks?
